Playing with pictures week: black and white Sage

March 21, 2013  |  Buildings, Gateshead, Quayside, River Tyne  |  No Comments

The Sage Gateshead just looked more stunning in this shot in black and white, not colour.

Playing with pictures week: Cadbury sky

Playing with levels on this left me with this shot and this deliciously-coloured sky.

This picture of the Pitcher and Piano was in colour to start with, but I think it’s more striking converted to black and white.

You can see the original on twitter here.

I do love the Sage at night. It looks so completely different to how it is in the day. I prefer the nights when the river is calm and reflects like a mirror, but I love these reflections too.

Quiz Day 3: Swing Bridge and Pylon

October 5, 2011  |  Newcastle upon Tyne, River Tyne  |  9 Comments

The colour gives it away even if you didn’t know – but everyone did! My cunning switching it to black and white didn’t fool anyone – yesterday’s picture was of the Swing Bridge. Previous pictures on this site here (outside) and here (inside), as well as two older pics here and here.

Today’s question! What’s this?

Quiz Day 2: Pet Cemetery and Bridge?

So everyone got it right: yesterday’s picture was of the Pet Cemetery…

… in Jesmond Dene.

I always assumed that the graves were really old. I was quite surprised when I got down to look at them the other day to find out that they seem to be from the 1970s. I can’t really find anything out about it online – anyone help? And some more pics are now on flickr.

Next question – again I think it’s fairly easy. Which bridge is this?

It looked as though the boat was going to come straight out of the water onto the bridge. Pretty pleased with this.

Quiz starts tomorrow! I was thinking of switching on comment moderation so y’all get to have a go without seeing other people’s answers, but I don’t seem to have access to do that, so you’ll all just have to be really quick!

Quayside Seaside #2

September 29, 2011  |  Newcastle upon Tyne, River Tyne  |  3 Comments

Sorry for anyone who was expecting Wednesday’s pic to be Quayside Seaside #2 – I got slightly confused about the date and it seemed a shame not to post yesterday’s pic on the relevant day!

This is the ‘sandpit’ – unfortunately after the volleyball net and deckchairs had been taken away. I actually walked past last week and completely missed the whole thing. Probably says something they don’t really want to hear about the whole thing……

Quayside seaside #1

September 27, 2011  |  Newcastle upon Tyne, River Tyne  |  4 Comments

I managed to miss this Quayside Seaside business until the very end – I was down on the Quayside yesterday and they were taking away the trees :( – but I’m still torn between thinking the idea is genuis and completely insane. ‘Come for the famous Geordie welcome, stay for the tropical climate!!!’ ?????!? Who the hell came up with that one?!

Another pic tomorrow….

Oh and I’m gutted to report that Sunday was the last day for the Grey Street Garden too :(

The Sage

D (the hubby) said this was ‘the’ shot of the Sage (with a hint of disdain!) when I was trying to decide which pic to use – but I do like to use the obvious shot, once in a while! But for those of you who’d rather see something more interesting you can click back to one of these shots:
