Gosforth High Street.

October 31, 2011  |  Newcastle upon Tyne  |  4 Comments

Some of you may remember me? I am Chris and I started Newcastle daily Photo back in February 2006. I saw an article in Amateur Photography magazine about London Daily Photo (hi Ham). It mentioned Eric and Paris Daily Photo (the very first one) as well of course. That inspired me to start the Newcastle one, which I believe was the 17th. I think its fantastic that 5 and a half years later it is still going thanks to Cassandra, and now Beth-take a bow girls.

To bring us all right up to date,I have been recently having email chats with Beth and she asked me to a do a guest week–which is now a guest fortnight! I am also hoping to pop in with other guest posts from now on (if Beth will let me?)

Enough about me, and on to today’s image.  This is Gosforth. A suburb to the north of Newcastle city centre. In fact the high street-seen below-used to be the main A1 road from the south, all the way to Scotland. Now it’s a hive of activity, with shops, restaurants, churches and cafes etc. It is still the main northern route out of Newcastle and so still a very busy road.

Shadows

shadows

I do love my shadowy shots. This is one of mine and Cassandra took this one.

And the news alluded to yesterday… Chris H, who originally started this site and who now posts at grimeandglamour.co.uk (not suitable for work/kids!!) is posting for a guest fortnight! It’s been a long time since Chris posted here (August 2007 since he was posting regularly, fact fans!) and he’s taken some amazing pictures for us. Hope you enjoy them!

I’ll still be hanging around the comments but won’t be posting pics again until 14th November. See y’all then!

Lights

lights

This is in Fenwicks, the corridor to the side of entrance on Northumberland Street which takes you past the florist into Yo! Sushi. Love the lights drawing you down the corridor.

Surprise coming on Monday, although those who read all the comments (or who read everything on twitter!) will have figured it out. Feel free to speculate :)

Greggs Moment ducks

ducks

Looking the other way from pretty much the same point. Looks completely different, doesn’t it? But when you’re in there, it just works – it doesn’t even seen like there’s a divide between the two areas. Love it.

I absolutely love the pictures on the wall – a great mix.

I do think Greggs Moment is well worth a trip. Hell, even if you don’t live in Newcastle ;)

moment1

I know some of you have been wanting some pics of Greggs Moment and who am I not to provide??

Another tomorrow… and in the meantime this review is very good and has more pictures!!

Still sitting with the virtual cuppas on yesterday’s post, do drop in and say hi :)

Cup of tea?

October 26, 2011  |  Newcastle upon Tyne  |  13 Comments

introduce-yourself

Alf asked for more pictures of Greggs Moment interior and I had this one that I was in two minds about… G’wan, have a cup of tea and come and join me in the comments. Tell me how long you’ve been coming here, and how you first stumbled across this place (if you remember!). Tell me what you like and dislike about the site. Tell me what kind of a week you’re having! And ask me questions…. I can’t guarantee I’ll answer everything (and I’ve got a busy few days so might not answer straight away but I promise I’ll answer everything in the end!) but I’ll answer what I can!

I absolutely love the lights in Moment on Northumberland Street. I’d love them in my own house. (And believe it or not I haven’t messed with the colours on these.)

Occupy Newcastle

occupy

In usual circumstances, I would at least understand the Occupy movement. However I’m still in the phase of my brain having melted post-baby, so I will just point you to the website and twitter feed for Occupy Newcastle and let you figure it out for yourselves.

This picture was taken on Thursday. I would have posted it as part of the Grey’s Monument week but I loved all my pictures so much I decided to post it as an extra one instead :)

Grey’s Monument week – Two picture Sunday: Signs

sign

And lastly, I think these might be a little treat for those of you who’ve been up Monument in years gone by! Do you remember this sign? It was hidden at the bottom of the stairs. It costs £2 these days, not 50p! Love it!

sign3

And this was at the top. Officially there are 164 steps so I guess someone miscounted? Don’t know why they put the sticker on the sign though!

I do love this sign – hope no one decides to update it!

Grey’s Monument Week – Monument Mall dome and SJP

monument-dome

As with Thursday’s post, this is looking roughly north. It’s not often you can see the detail of the dome at the top of Monument Mall, so I really liked this even before I spotted the shadow! I like that you can see the tower of St Thomas’ Church on St Mary’s Place as well. Incidentally, why is it St Mary’s Place when the church is St Thomas????

st-james-park

And just for you lot, this is looking west… a picture of St James’ Park – for any newcomers, the home of Newcastle United (in other news, if this applies to you – where have you been?!). I couldn’t make you make do with it just edging into Thursday’s post ;)

Eyesores seem to be a go-er. I’m in two minds about whether to have a week of eyesores or a regular slot – but not sure I could fill a regular slot!! Thoughts?
