Central Station Week 1

Taken in 2008 during the Christmas holiday, this is Central Station’s Tree. I love the architecture ¬†of this station!

Took this from a multi storey car park in Grainger Town a week or so back. Does anyone know what they’re building? Is it something to do with Science City?

Tyne Line of Txt Flow

February 20, 2011  |  Newcastle upon Tyne  |  5 Comments

This is one of those pieces of art that I never feel I have enough time to stop and look at properly.

From the Newcastle Council website:

Tyne Line of Txt Flow is a 140m long stream of text. The text comes from Roman messages found locally, printed text from the time of King Charles the 1st and text messages collected in 2002 on the day of the Newcastle Sunderland derby. These are identified by translation into SMS text form. William Herbert has written a response making reference to the Skinner Burn flowing under the street.

There are a couple more pictures on my flickr photostream.

I wandered past Blackfriars the other day and spotted this chimney which I really like. I’d love to live here, even though I’m sure it’d be pretty noisy.

Taken on my rather prosaic way to Tescos the other day. The sun was blinding, but worth it – I do love shots like this.

Claremont Building

The Claremont Building. Shame about the window being so dirty.

Japanese bottles

Unfortunately I didn’t think to take a note of the name of the restaurant these bottles were in. They were just off Westgate Road on Cross Street. (And now I start to write I’m not entirely sure they’re Japanese – please correct me if I’m wrong!!)

University Buildings

The Newcastle University buildings above the Arches, glowing in winter sunshine.

The Angel

A while back someone asked for pictures of the Angel of the North from strange angles. I’ve not been up to the Angel since, but I found this shot from back in 2009 and I really like it, so I thought I’d share it!

Music Hall, Nelson Street

February 13, 2011  |  Newcastle upon Tyne  |  1 Comment

I walked along Nelson Street many times without ever noticing this plaque. When I googled to find out what it was about I found out that it marks the site of a music hall that Charles Dickens visited and where he read some of his work. There’s a more informative plaque, too, and a couple of other pictures on my flickr photostream – sadly neglected recently but I plan to start adding more pics there again soon!
