Two picture Sunday: Dieu et mon Droit

January 31, 2010  |  Newcastle upon Tyne  |  6 Comments

So when I took this picture, I was mixed up and thought it was Trinity House. But it blatantly isn’t, as, err, I’ve featured Trinity House before and it looks quite different. So does anyone know what this building is? Google hasn’t helped for once.

If I’d realised I didn’t know what it was, I would’ve crossed the road to check….

Jesmond Picture House

This pic is about a year old. I’m posting it because this building has now been demolished, as I mentioned in yesterday’s comments. I think it’s really sad.

I liked this tribute.

Old Odeon Building

I’m not sure if any people who don’t live in Newcastle any more are curious. But the old Odeon building is still abandoned, sad and empty.

Incidentally, I recently got this book out of the library and it’s fascinating. It’s available from amazon here.

Castles in the sky

There have been a few pictures posted featuring the castle motif that features round the city. But I’ve not noticed it on the street lights before.

Jesmond Dene path

Back in Jesmond Dene, this is one of the paths in the deep bits of summer when it’s all lush and green.

Superdrug building

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Newcastle is a city in which you want to keep looking up. It will reward you.

How have I never noticed the building above Superdrug before?

Edited to add that yesterday, I took my 10,000th pic with this camera. Doing well!

Looking south west (ish) from the Pilgrim Street roundabout. The tower visible is St Nicholas Cathedral.

Two picture Sunday – St Nicholas’ Cathedral

The Cathedral Church of St Nicholas, highlighted by snow.

More information here.

(There’s only a little bit of snow on this pic – that’s not really winter, right??)

This is the last winter pic, unless the snow returns.

See the icicles hanging from that gutter? I’ve never seen icicles in years before this winter. That day, they were everywhere.

These are near Four Lane Ends.

Snowy Northumberland Street

I’ve never seen snow lying on Northumberland Street before this winter. This had lain there for a few days, I think. It was an odd sight.
