Vampire rabbit

March 31, 2009  |  Newcastle upon Tyne  |  11 Comments

I first moved to Newcastle in 1994. I moved away again for about 5 years, but I’ve lived here again for 7. And I only found the vampire rabbit on Sunday.

It’s been posted here before (back in the days when this place had loads of comments, sigh) so I’ve including a bit more of the doorway.

A couple more shots will go onto flickr in the next day or two.

Charity Abseil, Vermont Hotel

March 30, 2009  |  Newcastle upon Tyne  |  2 Comments

Two friends of mine abseiled down the Vermont hotel yesterday – dressed as cats, complete with makeup, ears and tails. I think it was in aid of the Newcastle Falcons Community Foundation. They were both buzzing at the bottom – I’m thinking of doing something similar next time something like that crops up! Well done L and J :o )

St George’s is a beautiful church.

I took a ton of pics and will be putting more onto flickr later today.

Blossom in Jesmond.

I took a ton of pictures. Some are amazing. I want to make a series of prints.

Flats in Shieldfield.

Another pic from last Friday. I’ve been away for a few days – will get out and about with my camera again soon.

Sail Bridge

For Cassandra. A different view of the Sail Bridge linking Northumbria University campus East with the city centre. You can see the Civic Centre in the background on the right, too.

Flying Kites

Another shot of Heaton Park again.  (What can I say?  I love this place).  This little girl had a rather unique kite and seemed to be enjoying herself.  Such a beautiful day!

Sorry about the delay, I had connection issues.

Cloughs, Heaton Road

March 24, 2009  |  Newcastle upon Tyne  |  6 Comments

Cloughs, an old-fashioned sweet shop on Heaton Road. It’s been a sweet shop since 1934, and the owner has written a book with his brother detailing the history of the shop. They are also out to preserve the Geordie history of song and dance – click here for more.

There’s even a facebook group for fans of Cloughs.

The beautiful weather on Friday brought the shoppers out in droves.

Two picture Sunday – Heaton Co-operative Building

March 22, 2009  |  Newcastle upon Tyne  |  2 Comments

This building is in Heaton. I used to live right round the corner from it, and I don’t ever remember noticing the lettering around the top.

For those whose eyesight is not what it used to be, it reads:
‘Newcastle upon Tyne Co-operative Society Limited. 1892. Newcastle upon Tyne Co-operative Society Limited. Heaton Road Branch. Registered Office Newgate Street’.
