No smoking, Central Station

newcastle, uk, no smoking
No smoking painted pavement outside Newcastle Central Station. You wouldn’t believe the number of people who try and ignore that.

Sorry it’s so late.

There’s a lot of work going on at Haymarket still. The escalators have been replaced; this is the up escalator on the right as you’re coming up from the platforms.

(Sorry it’s late; we’re having posting issues. Hopefully we’ll be OK now but I couldn’t log in yesterday and Cassandra couldn’t get her picture to post)

Ice Rink, Centre for Life

The ice rink at Centre for Life. Yesterday’s double helix statue can be seen in the background.

Double Helix Statue

This statue represents the double helix structure of DNA. It can be found inside Times Square, outside the Centre for Life Complex.

I am not enjoying the new version of word press. Does anyone know if I can get back to the old one?

Centre For Life by night

The sign over the entrance to the Centre for Life by night. I was there last night for the open-air ice rink – I was terrible at first, but improved quite fast!

Yates Wine Bar

On Grainger Street. I’ve always thought it was a waste for this beautiful building to be a wine bar.

Newcastle, UK, lamp post

Lamp post on Northumberland Street.

Notice the castles at the top?  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: people should look up more in Newcastle.

Does anyone have any idea what this is?  For anyone who can’t make out the writing, it says: RNIB supporting blind and partially sighted people

Our Newcastle?

Newcastle, UK

An afterthought to the post with the litter.

I wish people would take this sentiment more seriously.

looking up again

Newcastle, UK

I mentioned a while ago that I should look up more.  That Newcastle’s a rewarding city to look up in.

Here’s more proof of that. I have no idea if these buildings have always been this colour, or if they’ve been painted recently.  The colours look to me as if they belong in Scandinavia somewhere, not Newcastle city centre.

The buildings are on Northumberland Street, opposite the Northern Rock building pictured yesterday.

Northern Rock, Northumberland Street

Newcastle, UK, northern rock

Northern Rock on Northumberland Street.  Great building again.  I particularly love the clock and look up at it every time I walk down Northumberland Street from Haymarket.  I’ll have to get a close-up at some point.

I’m not going to weigh in on the debate on the bonuses given to Northern Rock, other than to say too bloody right they didn’t give ‘em to execs or senior management!

PS – Cassandra’s having internet access issues but will be back soon (I hope!)
